In July 2007 the famous Stravinski Auditorium at Montreux was witness to a gathering of the Wu-Tang Clan. With the exception of the sadly deceased Ol’ Dirty Bastard, the whole Clan was present: RZA, GZA, Method Man, Inspectah Deck, Raekwon The Chef, U-God, Ghostface Killah and Masta Killa. Also joining the party were some of their extended family members: Cappadonna, Streetlife and DJ Mathematics. This rare gathering of the full clan took Montreux by storm and got the whole audience on their feet and jumping with a set featuring all their best known hits and classics plus a number of solo tracks, including a clutch of Ol’ Dirty Bastard hits.

It takes a certain sort of band to fill Wembley stadium, one unafraid to embrace scale, flirt with pomposity, and perform the odd grand gesture. Watching Muse’s live CD/DVD H.A.A.R.P -recorded over two nights in June 2007- you’re left wondering if Wembley is quite big enough to hold them. From the grand opening, when Muse ascend from an underground chamber and walk down a central ramp flanked by men in yellow chemical splash suits to Matt Bellamy’s lengthy, florid turns at the grand piano, no opportunity is missed to make H.A.A.R.P seem anything less than a spectacle. Shot in high definition, the camera-work is as snappy and dynamic as any movie blockbuster, with special attention to the crowd, who are picked out with sometimes breathtaking detail. Fans may gripe over the tracklisting–the DVD has been edited down, meaning four tracks, including “Bliss” have been left on the cutting floor–-but casuals should be satisfied with the selection: there’s the hits (“Supermassive Black Hole”, “Knights of Cydonia”) and on the DVD, a noble rendition of Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good”.

Riding high on the phenomenal success of A Rush of Blood to the Head, Coldplay is in peak form on Coldplay Live 2003. This CD/DVD two-pack was filmed (on Super-16mm film) and recorded in Sydney’s Horden Pavilion on July 21 and 22, 2003, during an exhaustive year-long world tour, and the medium-sized arena provides a fitting stage for the London-based rock quartet, not so grand as to overwhelm the music, but large enough to indicate their large and loyal following, which includes enthusiastic fans of either gender. Especially when played in DTS 5.1 surround, this 90-minute concert is richer, thicker, and (of course) louder than Coldplay’s studio recordings, lending a wall-of-sound expansiveness to the band’s signature sound, which draws from such diverse influences as Genesis, Pink Floyd, The Verve, U2, and their own unique sonic landscape. “Politik” gets the gig off to a rousing start, and other impressive highlights include “Daylight,” “Yellow,” the as-yet-unreleased new song “Moses,” and the popular hits “In My Place,” “Clocks,” and “The Scientist.” And while the concert visuals are slick and professional (perhaps placing a bit too much emphasis on singer/frontman Chris Martin), this DVD and CD–the latter containing a truncated 70-minute version of the same performance–are best appreciated for their pristine audio quality. Culled from 400 hours of home video, the 40-minute “concert diary” represents a wasted opportunity, enjoyable for hardcore fans but offering no insight into the band or its individual members. Much better, then, to play the concert at healthy high volume, and appreciate Coldplay in the prime of their young career.

Live At Wembley Stadium is a live video by the Foo Fighters. It was filmed during the band’s two sold out shows at Wembley Stadium on June 6th and June 7th 2008. Het optreden werd voor het eerst uitgezonden op MTV op 14 december 1993. De CD “MTV Unplugged in New York” won de Grammy voor beste alternatieve muziekalbum in 1996.
